Rose water is a beautifully soothing toner and so much more. I really enjoy using it and realized that I haven’t shared why I use it (some great recipes) and how to make rose water.
Rose water is used in aromatherapy for its benefits in helping depression and anxiety. It also, in reducing anxiety, can help relieve menstrual pain (1).
Rose Water Uses
Rose water is used in a number of different foods. This adds a beautiful aroma and light, delicate, floral flavor.
- Ice Cream
- Salad Dressings
But rose water is most often used in beauty products. And for good reason. It can:
- Help fight acne – Rose water is a bactericide and antimicrobial.
- Anti Aging and Beauty – Rose petals are high in antioxidants and are anti-inflammatory. Both of these qualities mean it makes a great toner and is a wonderful ingredient for creams, lotions, bath waters, makeup setters, and face washes.
- Natural Perfume – Rose water smells amazing. This means your hair and body can smell fresh and beautiful naturally.
How to Make Rose Water
Rose water is very simple to make, even if you can only access dried rose petals and not fresh.
The fresh rose petal ratio to filtered water is 7 rose heads to 6 cups filtered water.
The dried rose petal ratio to filtered water is 1 cup dried rose petals to 6 cups filtered water.
You simply need to place the rose petals in a saucepan and cover with the filtered water. Bring to a boil, turn off heat, cover, and allow to cool slowly to room temperature. Pour through a strainer into an amber bottle and seal tightly. Store in the refrigerator.
Rose Water Recipe
- 7 rose fresh rose heads or 1 cup dried
- 6 cups filtered water
- Place the rose petals in a saucepan and cover with the filtered water.
- Bring to a boil, turn off heat, and cover. Allow to cool slowly to room temperature.
- Pour through a strainer into an amber bottle and seal tightly. Store in the refrigerator.
