Although a huge part of America has been stuck in colder weather than usual this Spring, we know the warmth is coming. Sandal weather is upon us! I don’t know about you, but my winter feet need a little TLC first with these foot scrub recipes.
Now is the perfect time to pamper your feet before running around barefoot in the garden and getting them all scuffed up again. I know no one wants to see my dry and near to cracking heels in sandals either.
These make great gifts! They are easy to make, and anyone, guy or gal, loves to use a good foot scrub. Find some ready made in my shop.
I’ve put together three recipes with different ingredients that are nourishing and exfoliating. Choose one that sounds great to you or one that has all the ingredients that you have on hand already, because they each are fabulous for the skin.
A quick word about a growing trend in exfoliating products in the store:
Ingredients are becoming more and more scary. My daughter was given a foot scrub lotion recently and I, of course, took it from her to read the ingredients. Beyond the numerous toxic ingredients like preservatives, dyes, and fragrance oils, was sodium hydroxide….Lye!
I use lye in soap making every week, but there’s a reason why soap makers create soap with leftover oils: it’s to insure that there is absolutely no chance that any lye is leftover after the saponification process. All the lye is used up in converting the oil to soap. It is absolutely not safe to have lye touch your skin.
In an effort to exfoliate feet, elbows, and even hands in hand creams, producers are adding lye. It will exfoliate alright, by eating into your skin. This is in not healthy and is potentially cancerous.
I threw my daughter’s foot cream away with a promise to replace it with something healthy. Since she’s becoming a teenager and doesn’t always just want what mama makes, we went to a few stores to look, but found nothing that was remotely healthy! Very sad. She then told me she just wanted to make her own. She was so proud of her final product and learned that she could make something better than what she could have bought from those stores, because she knew it was good for her and was able to choose a scent combination from my essential oils that she loved.
3 Foot Scrub Recipes

The fist recipe is simple so that you don’t have to go to a specialty store or wait for a purchase online. Feel free to mix and match ingredients to create your own combination of foot scrub recipes.
Lavender Vanilla Foot Scrub with Magnesium
I love vanilla and lavender together. Not only do they smell like candy when mixed together, they are also soothing and calming for swollen or irritated feet. Epsom salts are high in magnesium. Since we do not get enough magnesium from our veggies that are grown in depleted soils, making sure we get magnesium so that are nervous system functions properly is important.
