3 Foot Scrub Recipes for Pretty Summer Feet

Although a huge part of America has been stuck in colder weather than usual this Spring, we know the warmth is coming. Sandal weather is upon us! I don’t know about you, but my winter feet need a little TLC first with these foot scrub recipes.

Now is the perfect time to pamper your feet before running around barefoot in the garden and getting them all scuffed up again. I know no one wants to see my dry and near to cracking heels in sandals either.

3 Foot Scrub Recipes by Simple Life Mom

These make great gifts! They are easy to make, and anyone, guy or gal, loves to use a good foot scrub. Find some ready made in my shop.

I’ve put together three recipes with different ingredients that are nourishing and exfoliating. Choose one that sounds great to you or one that has all the ingredients that you have on hand already, because they each are fabulous for the skin.

A quick word about a growing trend in exfoliating products in the store:

Ingredients are becoming more and more scary. My daughter was given a foot scrub lotion recently and I, of course, took it from her to read the ingredients. Beyond the numerous toxic ingredients like preservatives, dyes, and fragrance oils, was sodium hydroxide….Lye!

I use lye in soap making every week, but there’s a reason why soap makers create soap with leftover oils: it’s to insure that there is absolutely no chance that any lye is leftover after the saponification process. All the lye is used up in converting the oil to soap. It is absolutely not safe to have lye touch your skin.

In an effort to exfoliate feet, elbows, and even hands in hand creams, producers are adding lye. It will exfoliate alright, by eating into your skin. This is in not healthy and is potentially cancerous.

I threw my daughter’s foot cream away with a promise to replace it with something healthy. Since she’s becoming a teenager and doesn’t always just want what mama makes, we went to a few stores to look, but found nothing that was remotely healthy! Very sad. She then told me she just wanted to make her own. She was so proud of her final product and learned that she could make something better than what she could have bought from those stores, because she knew it was good for her and was able to choose a scent combination from my essential oils that she loved.

3 Foot Scrub Recipes

I’ve designed these recipes so that anyone can make them. They are simultaneously simple and luxurious. The fist recipe is simple so that you don’t have to go to a specialty store or wait for a purchase online. Feel free to mix and match ingredients to create your own combination of foot scrub recipes.

Lavender Vanilla Foot Scrub with Magnesium

I love vanilla and lavender together. Not only do they smell like candy when mixed together, they are also soothing and calming for swollen or irritated feet. Epsom salts are high in magnesium. Since we do not get enough magnesium from our veggies that are grown in depleted soils, making sure we get magnesium so that are nervous system functions properly is important.

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1 cup Epsom salts
  • 5 drops lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops vanilla oil

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a wide mouth jar.  Feel free to substitute other essential oils as desired.
  2. Seal and keep in a dark cupboard until use.
  3. Keep for up to 4 months.

Peppermint Cypress Circulation Scrub

Peppermint and cypress essential oils are known for promoting circulation. Increased blood circulation will help reduce inflammation in swollen feet and ankles and promote healing as blood flows. The Dead Sea salt and Himalayan salts have a high mineral content.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup MCT coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup apricot kernel oil
  • 1 cup Dead Sea Salt or Himalayan Salt
  • 5 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 5 drops cypress essential oil

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a wide mouth jar.  Feel free to substitute other essential oils or carrier oils as desired.
  2. Seal and keep in a dark cupboard until use.
  3. Keep for up to 4 months.

Tea Tree Avocado Foot Scrub

Avocado oil is full of vitamins and highly absorbent. I’ve added tea tree and frankincense essential oils to this recipe to help kill bacteria and reduce inflammation and promote healing.

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup avocado oil
  • 1 cup organic sugar
  • 5 drops tea tree essential oil
  • 5 drops frankincense essential oil

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a wide mouth jar.  Feel free to substitute other essential oils or carrier oils as desired.
  2. Seal and keep in a dark cupboard until use.
  3. Keep for up to 4 months.

Enjoy! If you’re looking for a great gift, you can find scrubs in my shop as well.

Thank you for these nice recipes. My daughter loves to use foot scrubs, and I’m certain she doesn’t read ingredient lists….I’m making her some right now to give and sending her the first part of your post re: what is in them!!!!

    Thanks for the recipes!

I have been making my own products for years. I love to try new ideas and new recipes, especially for personal care products.

My cousin is coming to visit in a few weeks and we will be making these together! Last visit, we did sugar scrubs, deodorant, lip balm, and lotion. 🙂

I just made the Lavender foot scrub. I substituted patchouli oil as I didn’t have vanilla oil. I loved it but the olive oil is very yellow. What do you think about using the MCT oil or even a liquid coconut oil?

You can definitely use another oil. olive oil will be yellow, depending on the type you choose. Sweet almond oil is very light as well.
