Here are 9 Recipes to clean Your floors naturally. Whether they be wood, laminate, or carpet, or whether you want to disinfect your bathroom floors or not, here are some great recipes for you. We use them and love them. I have found that I don’t need anything else.
Natural Floor Cleaner
1) Wood Floors
- 1 gallon of hot water
- 3/4 cup of olive oil
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
No rinsing needed. Just combine, soak mop, wring out well, and wipe down floors. The Lemon and water clean, while the oil protects and shines.
2) Laminate Floors
- 1 part Water
- 1 part White Vinegar
- 1 part 70% Isopropyl (Rubbing) Alcohol
- Few drops of liquid dish detergent
This can be done in a small bucket for use with a rag, or put in a spray bottle. Simply spray and wipe. No need for rinsing.
3) Bathroom Disinfectant Floor Cleaner
- 1 gallon of hot water
- 1/4 cup of Borax
No rinsing needed for this recipe either unless you feel necessary. The addition of the borax helps to disinfect the floor.
Stain Remover for Carpets
Warning: Vinegar is used by artists and as an ancient technique to set dyes. While vinegar does change the acidic level of the solution, I do not believe it should not be used with hot water. This is why with one recipe below that calls for vinegar I suggest using cold water. I, personally, use the baking soda and it seems to work great.
4) Baking Soda Stain Remover
- ½ cup baking soda
- 2-3 drops essential oil
Combine above ingredients. Sprinkle on the stain and rub in gently. Wait for anything to dry if wet and vacuum with a regular vacuum. Works good on grease spots.
5) Heavy Duty Stain Remover
- 1/2 cup salt
- 1/2 cup borax
- 1/2 cup vinegar
Mix the three ingredients into a paste and rub the mixture directly into the stain. Leave for a few hours. Vacuum thoroughly.
6) Club Soda Stain Remover
Soak spot immediately in club soda and blot until spot is gone.
7) Vinegar and Water Stain Remover
- equal parts white vinegar and water
Mix ingredients in a spray bottle. Spray directly on stain and let sit for several minutes. Clean with a brush or sponge using cold soapy water.
Carpet Deodorizer/Freshener
8) Baking Soda
Sprinkle baking soda all over carpet, leave for 15-20 minutes, then vacuum. This will naturally remove pet and other odors from your carpet.
9) Baking Soda and Essential oil
For a fragrant carpet freshener, add essential oil to your baking soda. Add 10 drops per cup of baking soda. Use your favorite smell, or something refreshing like lemon, orange, lavender, or peppermint. Break up any clumps and sprinkle mixture on carpet. Let sit for 15-20 minutes. Vacuum.
