When you have some children, it’s important to have a list of family favorite recipes on hand that you can cycle through. You want recipes that everyone loves and is excited about. Reality is that you won’t please everyone, but there are some things that really hit big. These homemade pizza rolls are just that.

Homemade Pizza Rolls from Scratch from Simple Life Mom

Pizza Rolls are a big hit in my family. They are different, have a great pizza sauce and cheese, as well as a great crust.

They are not hard to make.  You basically make the dough, flatten it out, throw some toppings on it and roll it up.  The kids really love them.  We took them on picnics or to home school co-ops this past summer.  Very handy to keep in the freezer as well.  They freeze well uncooked.

Make a double batch and put half in the freezer for later, then just pull out a tray for a lunch on a busy day.

Equipment

  • 1 large glass bowl
  • 1 measuring cups
  • 1 measuring spoons
  • 2 large spoon
  • 1 large skillet
  • 1 13×9 in baking dish

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2-1/2 cups flour (or half wheat, half unbleached white)

Filling

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ onion , sliced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • 8-16 ounces Mozzarella cheese , shredded

Instructions

  • Add water, yeast, olive oil, and sugar and let yeast dissolve until mixture starts to bubble (5-10min.).
  • Mix salt and flour together and add to yeast mixture. Knead until smooth and elastic (5-10 min).
  • Set dough aside and cover until doubled (about 1 hour).
  • In a large skillet, combine the beef, onion, oregano, garlic, salt and pepper and cook until meat is done. Set aside to cool slightly.
  • When dough has doubled in size, punch down and stretch out until 1/8 inch thick rectangle.
  • Spread lightly with Homemade Pizza Sauce. Sprinkle with meat mixture. Sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese. Carefully roll starting on the longest side.
  • Slice 1 inch rolls with a very sharp knife so you don’t squish them. Place in a greased 9inx13in baking dish and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 minutes, or until golden on top.

I’ve seen these rolls on sticks. Ever tried those? Food on sticks are always fun, so I think I’ll give your recipe a try, on sticks.

Pizza an American favorite. I feel it is best to make your own homemade pizza so you know the ingredients. Thanks for sharing on Real Food Fridays Blog Hop.
