Essential oils are wonderful to diffuse in the bathroom while you take a bath. They add an aromatherapy therapeutic aspect to an already soothing shower or bath time for adults or children. But if you want to add a medicinal aspect to your aromatherapy routine, then herbs are the best choice. These herbal bath blends are wonderful at the end of a long day.
I’ve used essential oils within the bathtub. This hasn’t always worked well. Apparently, water doesn’t mix with oil. Yes, you’d think I would have remembered that when thinking the essential oils would be diluted in the large amount of water in the tub. I actually gave myself second degree burns and, stinging from head to toe, had to stand and shower while coating myself with soap to get rid of the oils.
Herbs are mild and effective.
Preparing Herbal Bath Blends
These herbal blends can be added to your bath in two different ways.
- Add them straight to the hot bath water.
- Create an herbal extraction and add the water to your bath.
The first option is simple. You just add the herbs to your bath water. The downside is that you’ll have herbs in the bathtub with you. Adults may not care, but children may want to eat the herbs. That’s not a big deal if they’re old enough for them. Otherwise, you may want to consider the second option.
Creating an herbal extraction is easy. Place herbs in a mason jar. If they are fresh then losing place them in to the top. Do not pack. If they are dried then you only need a few tablespoons. Pour hot water over the herbs and allow the jar to cool to room temperature. Put the lid on and shake well. Strain and then use.
