Natural Soap Making How-to and Recipe Book

I know a number of you bought my recently Amazon Best Seller The Natural Soap-Making Book for Beginners. This book is different in that it has all new recipes, including 4 shampoo bar recipes.

I’ve also included a few charts, including a chart on oil properties so you can better understand what oils bring to soap. For example, shea butter helps make a hard, conditioning bar with a stable lather. While castor oil creates lots of bubbles and a moisturizing, conditioning bar.

I’ve also including some troubleshooting considerations and how to fix a botched batch so that you can save almost anything that goes wrong (a great money saver).

And, of course, I’ve included some ideas for coloring your soap naturally with herbs, clays, and purees.

Natural Soap Making How-to and Recipe Book will definitely get you going in the world of natural soap making. But if you want something more in-depth (step by step of how to make color oil infusions for soap, more coloring ideas, tutorials and over 51 recipes) then check out The Natural Soapmaking Book for Beginners.

The soap recipes in your book are for 3 pounds of soap. Where can I get a slab mold with dividers to make 12 bars. Thanks

Brambleberry has a few different types. They sell a lot of unhealthy ingredients, but their molds are wonderful! They have a few 9 dividers which will make larger soaps and will fit the 3 pound recipes. They also have 12 slot silicone molds https://www.brambleberry.com/Molds-C184.aspx So does bulk apothecary https://www.bulkapothecary.com/silicone-square-soap-mold-12-cavity

    Hello!
I am so glad that I finded your blogg…I live in Sweden and I just started with soapmaking so I need inspiration.
I have a question for you:
I was looking at your soap-recipe with honey but I would like to change the tallow to something alse; You suggested the soapcalculator but that looks really complicated when you have not done that before :-).
Do you have an older post where you explain how it works? Where should I write my oils? There is a lot of squares! 🙂
    Thanks for your help/ Rebecka

This is your recipe that I want to change:
    25 oz olive oil
    16 oz coconut oil
    18 oz tallow
    6 oz shea butter
    2 oz castor oil
    4 Tbsp raw honey
25 oz water (remove 2 oz to mix with honey)
    9 oz lye
1-1/2 to 2 oz essential oils of choice (citrus scents go well with honey, as well as cinnamon leaf)

Rebecka, do you have lard? It can be interchanged in this recipe for tallow.
It does take a little playing around to figure out the lye calculator. Let me know if you need more help.

Hi I love your book for beginners. I am very green in this, haven’t even started my first batch yet just trying to understand the process but I can’t seem to wrap my head around how you arrived at your measurements for your essential oil blends in the recipes. I guess what I am asking is how do I decide how much of each essential oil I should add to my recipe if I am using more than one EO.

Essential oils can be very expensive. If I add them, I’d like to smell them…but not have them be too overwhelming (or expensive) in a batch. My general rule is 1 ounce per 3 pounds of soap. This is a light scent though (depending on the oil) and some may prefer more.

Please Ma I would want to know how to make moringa soap, but I have only 8oz(250ml) of Olive oil,100ml(3oz) of coconut oil,200ml(7oz) moringa solution, 3.14oz lye. Please how do I do this and mix the oils? Do I need to add Shea butter? What quantity? I will appreciate your response Ma.

Actually, you can make a great soap batch with those ingredients. Use 8oz olive oil, 3 oz coconut oil, 2 oz shea butter, 1.8 oz lye in 4.8oz water. I would use 1 Tablespoon of the moringa powder. If you have a liquid solution I would check what the other ingredients are and add it to the lye water instead of at trace.

    Hi there,
I have ordered from you before and I love your facial kit. I’m wanting to buy your book on DIY your own natural healthy bar soaps. Where can I buy one of your books and which one would you recommend? I really want to make these today if I can buy your book locally.
    Thank you

I’ve made several batches of soap using your recipes and want to make the luxurious shampoo bar. But I am concerned about how high the pH will be and it blowing my hair cuticle wide open. Am I overthinking it? LOL

pH is a small concern when it comes to hair, but something to keep in mind. Water minerals (water hardness) cause much more grief when it comes to natural hair and the hair shaft health. Natural shampoo bars are slightly basic. This basic pH will help minerals in the water to latch onto the hair and cause that straw like feeling. A simple solution is to follow up with a diluted slightly acid solution. I use an acv spray watered down 50% with aloe and rose water (but you can use water if needed). I have some in my shop – simplelifemom.com/shop.
