Best Homemade Chocolate Bars

Talk about amazing! I was looking for another way to make homemade chocolate chips. I’m not satisfied with my current recipe, because the butter or coconut oil separates from the chips too much for my liking. Instead, I accidentally made amazing homemade chocolate bars!

Best Homemade Chocolate Bars from Simple Life Mom

This recipe, though, is so yummy that it will never last to make chocolate chips!

Instead, it makes amazing dark chocolate bars. Yes, the best homemade chocolate bars.  And, it can be used in hot milk to make hot chocolate! (so excited!)

I love it….did I say that already?  Gotta love chocolate!  So, I continue to search for something more frugal for a mass making of chocolate chips for a healthy alternative to store bought chocolate chips with all the artificial ingredients.  But in them meantime, I will be snacking on this occasionally just for that little sugar fix.

This recipe is adapted from Chocolate Covered Katie.

1. Melt the coconut oil. Combine coconut oil with agave and stir.

2. Add cocoa powder.  Don’t skimp on the cocoa powder or it will just taste like sugar. This amount is perfect for a delicious chocolate candy bar. Stir until it the cocoa is fully incorporated.

3. Pour into any flat container lined with waxed paper.

4. Put in the fridge or freezer until solid.  I keep mine in the fridge for the few minutes that it remains uneaten.

Does this stay solid after you take it out of the fridge? I’m a choclaholic but it had never occurred to me to make my own bars!

Yes it does, unless it’s a hot day. It will soften though. I would keep it in the fridge until you want to eat it.

I have never bought coconut oil–is it something you can get at a regular grocery store or Walmart? Love this post and I am really wanting to try this recipe!

You can buy it at walmart next to the oils. Mine carries organic and non-organic brands.
I’m really glad I found this particular recipe. It really helps the sweet craving when I can just go and grab a bite every now and then.

Nice easy version to making your own chocolate! I am allergic to soy so have had to make my own for a few years now. I use a similar method, which uses cocoa butter, cocoa powder, coconut oil and a little honey. I’ll have to try this one too. One cannot have too much chocolate! 🙂

My hubby is a chocolate lover and I can’t wait to try these for him. He doesn’t like coconut…can you tell me if the coconut oil blends in enough that that flavor is not tasted?

Yes, most coconut oil has absolutely no smell or flavor.

First of all, you and your boys are super adorable. I can’t believe that there is a recipe this easy to make chocolate candy. I recently got super serious about my health and adopted a vegan lifestyle, but I still get a chocolate craving from time to time. I pinned this for future reference – thanks for sharing!

I have not used stevia with this particular recipe. I only use natural green stevia which retains its after taste, so I’m not sure how the taste would do in this recipe…

How about cocoa butter instead of coconut oil?

You can. It will make a harder bar, that’s less like a chocolate bar, but it may be great for hot climates.

I made a similar recipe with honey. I put it into silicone praline molds and kept them frozen as the summers here are very hot and coconut oil melts. Shouldn’t happen in the winter though. You can also add nuts or other goodies if you like. Yummy. Thanks for a lovely website.

I wanted to handmake candy for my kids for Easter this year so this is a perfect time to try this recipe. Can you tell me if you have a favorite cocoa powder? Thanks
