Top 5 Homemade Beauty Products from Simple Life Mom

We’ve had a lot of fun over the past few years experimenting with homemade beauty products, making makeup, soap, trying out various oils and learning about their healing properties.

These Top 5 makeup and homemade beauty products are the best of the best and get the most views on Simple Life Mom. I’m happy to put them all together for you.

Save them. Print them. And try your hand at making your own natural homemade beauty products.

There’s a lot to say for homemade products like makeup and moisturizers or toners. I’ve tried making just about anything you can name over the years.

Not all of the makeup and beauty recipes lived up to my expectations and they had to be tweaked (or ditched), but for the most part I was able to narrow down what worked and then create my own recipes using what really works and is easy to use.

I have been your guinea pig, and yes, you’re welcome! I enjoy experimenting!

Don’t forget that you can find most of these items in my Shop.

Using Herbs and Essential Oils in Homemade Beauty Products

It actually became a fun obsession of mine to learn more about various oils and natural powders.

I have fun creating and making concoctions, so the anti-aging serum was a blast for me.

Essential oils fascinating me.  They are oils extracted from the oils of plants, barks, roots, and flowers that are so incredibly potent. So, an oil from an oil.

You can learn more about essential oils, their safety, and how to get the most out of them by clicking here.

I’m not an essential oil only person. I incorporate whole plants into my daily life, from oils, to dried or fresh herbs used in cooking, to decoctions and tinctures. You can learn more about incorporating herbs into your life here.

Homemade Beauty Products and Saving Money

The Frugality of it all is also a huge draw.

Making my own foundation from ingredients in my kitchen makes for an extremely frugal makeup item.

The thing is, 10 years ago I never would have guessed that I could do something like combine cocoa powder and arrowroot powder or Moroccan clay and French clay and end up with a foundation that I love!  Who knew?

Handmade Soap

And the soap, don’t get me started on the soap.

It is definitely my favorite thing to make.  To end up with something that is so silky smooth, all natural, full of nourishing oils and smells fantabulous…what more could you ask for!

A number of my friends say they would love to make soap, but are nervous about making it for the first time.

Just give it a try and after the first time it gets much faster and easier. You can learn the basics by clicking here.

Make one batch and the process will click and before you know it, you’ll be experimenting with scents, colors and designs. Next thing you know you’ll be designing your own recipes using what from scratch!

Top 5 Makeup and Homemade Beauty Recipes

So here’s a countdown.  Starting from number 5, the top recipes that you CAN make yourself and love!

5.  Homemade Eye Shadow and Blush

Top 5 Natural Beauty Products from Simple Life Mom

At number five, homemade eye shadow and blush using natural ingredients that you may find in your kitchen (and a few that you can get rather cheaply online).

I also sell two shades (and often custom shades) in my shop.

4.  Homemade Lipstick

Homemade lipstick is one of those fun things you can make in small quantities and make whatever color you like.

I like to use beet root powder or hibiscus to color mine, though I sometimes use cocoa to make it a darker brownish color.

I also sell red lip balm and lip gloss in my shop.

3.  Homemade Powder and Liquid Foundation

This is one of those things that I could kick myself for not making sooner.  It is so incredibly simple and smells great.  I love The fact that the loose powder is only 2 ingredients for me.

I also sell foundations, finishing powder, and foundation samples in my shop.

2.  Anti-Aging with Essential Oils

Out of everything in the Top 5, I use this the most.  It’s in my daily routine to wash, apply a homemade rose toner, then apply my anti-aging oil.

The oils are so nourishing! My skin looks better now than when I was 10 years younger.

This of course combined with my better health, drinking enough water and getting enough sleep has really worked at healing the damage done to my skin from bad health.

And yes, I also sell the anti aging serum, eye cream, and eye serum in my shop.

1.  7 Homemade Shampoo Bar Recipes

Top 5 Natural Beauty Products from Simple Life Mom

And the most popular out of the Top 5 Makeup and Beauty Recipes is my 7 Homemade Shampoo Bar Recipes.  These 7 amazing recipes create great shampoo bars using nourishing and replenishing oils. You can choose your favorite recipe that suits your hair needs.

If you’ve never made soap before, these are ones to try.  You can also learn more about making soap and shampoo bars here.

I’ve had a few people tell me that these shampoo bar recipes give them the best froth for shaving as well.

All of these homemade beauty products have been tried and tested and made again multiple times. They’re easy to make successfully without a lot of challenges or change based on skin types and hair types. That makes them a go-to spot for getting started with your homemade beauty routine.

Start the year off right!

Have fun making your own and let us know on the comments what you’ve tried and what your favorite has been.
